UP #DC-3 rail detector car, built by Brill in 1928 as a Model 350 motorcar for the Detroit & Mackinac as #201, sold in 1952 to Teleweld, Inc., and rebuilt in December of that year to a detector car as #TC-100, resold to the UP in April 1954 as #DC-3/#03000, rebuilt and renumbered to #903000 in August 1961, rebuilt again sometime before 1984, retired in December 1986 and sold for scrap. Description:  Built in 1953 by Budd in Lot #9613-135 as AT&SF 48 seat leg rest chair #2835, 1 of 45 such cars (#2816-#2860) built in that Lot, which was ordered in September 1952; cars were delivered between September and December 1953. In 1971, Amtrak acquired 42 of these chairs as #4810-#4828 and #4850-#4872, the #2835 as #4827. In 1980, Amtrak converted 40 of these chairs to HEP as #4700-#4739, the #4827 was converted to #4714 in March of that year. In 1982-1983, Amtrak reconfigured 10 of these chairs to 88 seat coaches for the CLOCKER service, the #4714 was reconfigured to #7627 in March 1983. 3 of these reconfigured cars, including the #7627, were sold in 1997 to the Providence & Worcester. 2 of these 3 cars received names, the #7627 was named RHODE ISLAND. Description:  BN NW5 #987, still in GN paint in Interbay (Balmer) Yard in Seattle, in September 1973. The #987 was built in December 1946 as GN #187. The #987 was retired in April 1982 and sold in July 1982 to Pacific Transportation Services, then resold to REPCO (Replinger?) and stored in Mineral, WA, then acquired by the East Portland Traction Co. as #187. EPTC's line and operations were acquired by the Oregon Pacific RR, and in more recent times the #187 was stored at the former Gold Junction, which is located along the southern border of the Sellwood neighbourhood of Portland, OR. Description:  Built in 1951 by AC&F in Lot #3445 as GN Ranch Car #1244 WHITE PINES LAKE, 1 of 6 such cars (#1240-#1245) built in that Lot for the Mid-Century EMPIRE BUILDER, which was ordered in October 1949; cars were delivered between October 1950 and March 1951. The Ranch Cars had a 14 seat lunch counter, a 12 seat dinette, and a 18 seat lounge. #1240-#1242 and #1244-#1245 were owned by GN; #1243 was owned by CB&Q after 1953. In 1974, Amtrak acquired 4 of these cars as #8150-#8153; #1240 was scrapped and #1244 was sold to Arvid Benson. The #1244 was later resold to Ralph Day (Biddeford, ME), and in 2006, the car was moved from Maine to the The Depot Rail Museum in Columbus, OH. Description:  Built in 1942 by P-S in Lot #6668 to Plan #4069H as 4DB-4C-2DR sleeper IMPERIAL SANDS, 1 of 31 such cars built in that Lot, which was ordered in April 1941; cars were delivered between March and April 1942. 18 of the cars were built for the OVERLAND pool with IMPERIAL-series names, 11 of the cars were built for the GOLDEN STATE with GOLDEN-series names, and 2 cars were built for the PANAMA LIMITED. The 18 cars built for the OVERLAND pool were sold on 12/31/1945 to joint ownership of the UP, SP, and C&NW. This joint ownership arrangement lasted until 1947, when 12 of the cars, including the IMPERIAL SANDS, were sold to UP, 2 cars were sold to SP, and 4 cars were sold to C&NW. The IMPERIAL SANDS was retired in October 1969 and sold to William W. Kratville's Autoliner Corporation, which resold the car to Dick Reynolds as Great Western Tours #201. The IMPERIAL SANDS was later acquired by Classic Rail Cars and moved to the Morristown & Erie. Scanned with an Epson V550 from an original Kodachrome 35mm slide.
