Album Info:Despite the rain and crappy conditions, TJ and I decided to make out way out to chase the Indiana Eastern south from Cottage Grove, IN to Fernald, OH. Even though it poured down rain, we had an excellent chase and then some! Enjoy!

NS 8088
Title:  NS 8088
Description:  Today TJ and I decided to take a day to go to the Indiana Eastern Railway, another shortline that neither of us have documented before. They run south on Mondays and Thursdays and even though it is supposed to rain the entire day today, this was about the only day I have free off of work so we have to make due. They dont leave home base in Cottage Grove until about noon so we had plenty of time to cruise around and find what we could. We began the day along the NS at Oakville and shot NS 196 coming by a box car that had been left behind bad ordered.

Title:  CNUR 5 and WBCR 6
Description:  We decided to go down to New Castle to see if we could get extremely lucky and see anything move. Unfortunately we just got the parked engines. CNUR 5 has a blown traction motor and other issues so WBCR 6 is the only active unit on the CNUR in New Castle.

IERR 5255
Title:  IERR 5255
Description:  And with about a half hour to spare we made it into Cottage Grove for the IERR. I was pitching for them to use the AWW SD9 highood today, but the usual power, the ex SOU GP38-2 from NS that is adorned in the lovely green yellow and black scheme of the IERR was on the point, which I still was not disappointed with. They left for Fernald at about the time I was told they would and the chase was on! Here they are passing home offices in Cottage Grove.

Title:  IERR 5255
Description:  We soon figured out that this was not going to be an easy chase. With the combined rain and speed of the train we were going to have to hurry but be safe at the same time, so we didnt end up shooting at most crossings as I was hoping to. Here the train is crossing CR 450S just south of Cottage Grove framed with the codeline.

IORY 4084
Title:  IORY 4084
Description:  TJ and I then decided where we wanted to go next. We both decided that checking the CIND would be a decent option because it was so nearby. When we got down there we could clearly hear that something was working. Sure enough a stone train was in the quarry at Melvin Stone, but the power was completely inaccessible. We made our way back up to Valley Jct. and right before we got there we heard "IORY 4084 west clear Valley Jct. Yard Limits". Sure enough the westbound autorack job to Greensburg was slowly going through, and even more of a shocker, with a pair of Railtex Red SD40-2s. One shot I had wanted to get in particular of any train was a shot over the Whitewater River Bridge, which we got to just in time, and I nailed another one off the bucket list.

IORY 4084
Title:  IORY 4084
Description:  We decided that we would keep up with the Greensburg Train because a pair of red SD40-2s was hard to pass up. The train ended up stopping in Elizabethtown momentarily to allow a hand on pusher guide it up the hill at Sunman because todays train was too long and heavy to go up that grade with only 2 engines. We werent aware of the on hand pusher until we were mid chase out in the middle of nowhere.

Title:  IORY 4084
Description:  The CIND runs on ex- Big Four territory and one thing the Big 4 was well known for were their concrete bridges. There is no exception with their line to Cincinnati, as several of these bridges, big and small are scattered all over this line. Unfortunately, however, a lot of them are inaccessible for photos or vehicle, but this one west of Guilford is not. We got here just in time. The roar of these engines could be heard all through the Valley!

IORY 5007
Title:  IORY 5007
Description:  One thing that we were not quite prepared for were the backroads. We soon figured out that it is almost impossible to follow the tracks closely unless you have a background vehicle. Some of the roads just dead end in some places then begin again on the other side of the Tanners Creek. We made it into Sunman where we had completely lost the train. However, when we crossed the tracks we noticed that the helper unit was on its way back to Valley Jct. so we decided to take a risk and beat it back to Greendale. We followed the main roads, which I was sure was going to make us miss it. TJ was confident that we would not. And sure enough, after about 5 minutes of sitting by the old signal bridge in Greendale, the engine showed up. Sometimes TJs luck makes me jealous, but Ill take it!

Title:  IORY 4071
Description:  IORYs sole tunnel motor sits in the Valley Jct. Yard, appearing to be having a bit of troubles. A couple engine maintenance guys work on the engine and below the engine. It would have been quite the sight to see all 3 red SD40s working on the autorack train today! But, with that, TJ and I got supper at Steak n Shake in Lawrenceburg and began the drive home. Yet another fantastic day trackside with some great little railroad action!
