Album Info:
This third group of Milwaukee Road 4-6-0 ten wheel locos were rebuilds of earlier Baldwin (and one Brooks) B2 & B3 class Vauclain compound 4-6-0's. To add to the confusion, each loco was renumbered at least four separate times. I have included the numbering to help others sort this mess out. Wearing the group's last renumbering, they range from #1100 to #1198.

Title:
MILW 4-6-0 #1129 - Milwaukee Road
Description:
One of the few non-Baldwin 4-6-0's, MILW #1129 was built by ALCO-Brooks in January of 1909 as Chicago, Milwukee & St Paul Vauclain compound ten wheeler #4007. It was changed just a few times after that - renumbered in October of 1912 to CMStP #2707, renumbered in 1927 to CMStP&P #2707, and finally renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW #1129. The locs's last run was December of 1944 and was retired and scrapped in October of 1945. Specs - 73" dribvers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 20 1/2x26" cylinders, engine wt of 178,000 lb and modes tractive effort of 25,445 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Built by Baldwin & Company in October of 1897, MILW #1162 started out as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler #222. It was renumbered several times after this staring in 11/1905 to CMStP #860, renumbered in 9/1912 to CMStP 4107, simplified and renumbered in9/1924 to CMStP #2373, renumbered in 9/1938 to CMStP&P #1162. This may be one of the winners having the most numbers in its lifetime! Originally built by Baldwin in October of 1897 as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound ten wheeler #852, it didn't stay that way long - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #221, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #859, renumbered in 2/1913 to CMStP 4106, simplified and renumbered in 5/1915 to CMStP #2356, renumbered in 2/1921 to CMStP #2355, renumbered in 6/1938 to CMStP&P #1145. The loco was scrapped in August of 1951 after nearly 54 years of service. No photographer was listed for the photo.

This 4-6-0 wore 6 different numbers during its nearly 47 years with the Milwaukke Road. Built by Baldwin & Comapny in September of 1897, it was originally Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler #1141 but changed soon after - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #216, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMstP #854, renumbered in 9/12/ to CMStP $4101, simplified and renumbered in 7/1915 to CMStP #2351, renumbered in 6/1938 to CMStP&P #1141. The loco was scrapped after 47 years of service in November of 1944. Description:
Obviously taken as this once proud locomotive now sits in the dead/scrap line. Originally built in August of 1897 by Burnham, Wms & Company (Baldwin predecessor) as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul #845, it was a Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler. It didn't stay #845 for long - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #214, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #852, renumbered in 11/1912 to CMStP #4014, simplified & renumbered in 6/1915 to CMStP 2264, renumbered in 7/1938 to CMStP&P #1198. It was scrapped later inMay of 1940. Simplified specs - 63" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 19x26" cylinders, modest engine wt of 132,500 lb and modest tractive effort of 22,794 lb. Built by Baldwin in August of 1900, MILW 4-6-0 #1104 started out as CMSt&P Vauclain compound 4-6-0 #302. However, the Milwaukee Shops were busy renumbering these locos - renumbered in 10/1906 to CMStP #1602, renumbered in 1/1913 to CMStP #4202, simplified & renumbered in 5/1926 to CMStP #2764, and finally renumbered in 6/1938 to CMStP&P #1104. After nearly 54 years of service, the loco was scrapped in September of 1954. Description:
This loco wore many numbers during its lifetime. Nearing the end of its life, Milwaukee Road 4-6-0 #1173 sits peacefully in the Marquette, IA yard. Originally built by Baldwin & Company in November of 1899 as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul Vauclain compound 4-6-0 ten wheeler #241, it was renumbered many times - in 11/1905 to CMStP #879, renumbered in 9/1912 to CMStP 4126, simplified & renumbered in 2/1921 to #2384 and finally renumbered CMStP&P #1173. After nearly 55 years of service, the loco was scrapped in April of 1954. Simplfied specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 19x26" cylinders, engine wt of 165,000 lb, tractive effort of 25,327 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

MILW 4-6-0 #1162 has reached the end of a very productive life as it sits in the scrap line at the Proviso, IL yard missing its voice - the bell. Built by Baldwin & Company in October of 1897 as Chicago, Milwaukee & St Paul #853, it was changed many times after - renumbered in 4/1899 to CMStP #222, renumbered in 11/1905 to CMStP #860, renumbered in 9/1912 to CMStP 4107, simplified and renumbered in9/1924 to CMStP #2373, renumbered in 9/1938 to CMStP&P #1162. The loco was retired in July of 1954 after nearly 57 years of service. No photographer was listed for the photo.
