Album Info:Canadian National operations on various segments of ex-C&NW, Milwaukee Road, and GBW trackage from Lake Winnebago eastward, acquired via their absorption of Wisconsin Central LTD in 2001. Some of these lines have since been spun off yet again to Watco's WSOR/FOXY operations since the photos were taken.

Description:  The locomotive pulled the empty gondolas at rear left out of another siding, then shoved the loads it is now pulling over to the rest of the train, so it was temporarily sandwiched between the two cuts. Now the loads make up part of the departing train while the empties are left behind in their proper place for loading.

Description:  I followed the train to the north side of town, expecting it to take the connecting track to the east-west Manitowoc line and head home to the Fox Cities. Instead it stopped again and sat idling. Given the cold and the fact that I wanted to get home before the weather and traffic got really bad, I decided to settle for one more shot and call it a catch.

Title:  On the DBR Jct. connecting track
Description:  Running across the picture bottom right toward top left is ex-Milwaukee Road, now WSOR Northern Division main line between Horicon and North Milwaukee. In the background is the ex-C&NW "Air Line" to Fond du Lac. In the late '80s/early '90s this was the Fox River Valley RR's main line, however WC later abandoned a large portion of it as all through traffic was moved to their ex-Soo Line Waukesha Sub. They (and by extension CN, when it acquired the WC in 2001) obtained trackage rights over WSOR to serve the remaining stub to the south edge of West Bend, as well as a now isolated portion of the ex-Milwaukee Road line north out of Milwaukee to Saukville.

Description:  The crew operating this engine is the L548, which is based out of Manitowoc's Calumet Yard and works the industries around town. The "road" train is L524, which handles the traffic to and from the outside world at Neenah. 3018 is the last remnant of the once mighty fleets of sharp looking maroon and gold GP40s, SD45s, GP30s, SDL39s and others that roamed the rails of the western Great Lakes from the late 1980s to the early 2000s.

Description:  Let me tell you, going into 2020 I never expected to get DSLR photos (and HD video) of a maroon and gold WC GP40 in action! The last time I saw one was October, 2009. Some might remember that 3018 is the infamous "Frankenstein" unit, which prior to painting by WSOR's Horicon shops in 1995 had various long hood panels, cab and short hood from SBD, BN, and other (wrecked and cannibalized) WC units.
