IC SW1R 13
Title:  IC SW1R 13
Description:  The locomotive was built in June 1946 as Illinois Central 9027, and was renumbered 612 in October 1953. The railroad extensively rebuilt the locomotive in October 1968, replacing its 6-cylinder 600-horsepower prime mover with an 8-cylinder 1,000-horsepower one, and renumbered it 13. It was to be the prototype for the rebuilding of the IC's entire fleet of SW1's, which would have been renumbered 1-17; but it was the only one done. The 13 was photographed at Mays Yard, and it spent much of its later life in the New Orleans area. It was retired in 1988.

Charenton Canal Bridge

Description:  Up until the early 1950's the main line of the Southern Pacific was double-tracked between Bayou Sale (milepost 95.6) and Cade, Louisiana (M.P. 132.1). Thirty years later, the only evidence of this was the "double wide" swing bridge over the Charenton Drainage and Navigation Canal (M.P. 104.1) at Baldwin. Coastal Sand & Gravel Model 40
Title:  Coastal Sand & Gravel Model 40
Description:  Built on 29 August 1942 as U.S. Army 7953, this little loco was one of only 11 Model 40 diesel-electric switchers built by the Electro-Motive Corporation and its successor, the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. Built between August 1940 and April 1943, each 4-wheel unit weighed between 40 and 44 tons and was powered by two 150HP Detroit Diesel Model 6-71 truck engines. It looks like serial number 2285 spent its entire life in southeast Louisiana. Known owners included the Gulf South Warehouse Co. in New Orleans (which may have been its original assignment for the U.S. Army), American Creosote at Southport, and the Green Brothers' Coastal Sand & Gravel operation at Lacombe, where it was photographed in derelict condition.

KCS Special
Title:  KCS Special
Description:  Louisiana promoted the 100th anniversary of Louis Armstrong's birth - and the origins of jazz - by operating a 4-day rail tour over the Kansas City Southern from Shreveport to New Orleans. (Armstrong was actually born on 4 August 1901, so the train was a year early!) The tour showcased different styles of Louisiana music and culture for magazine travel writers, and its arrival in New Orleans coincided with the start of the 2000 Jazz and Heritage Festival. Here was the train at Gonzales with FP9’s 1 and 2, an office car, two support cars, another office car, a diner and a third office car.

The 101 had a crawfish on its cab while the 102 had a shrimp, and here was the SHRIMP UNIT with its windows boarded up. It was EMD frame number E1093-1, built in December 1948 as Colorado & Southern 153, then became Burlington Northern 403. It went to the stillborn Dixie River as the 403 and then to the Acadiana as the 102.

AKDN GP30 3018
Title:  AKDN GP30 3018
Description:  Acadiana Railway GP30 3018 had been built in February 1963 as Denver & Rio Grande Western 3018. It was retired on 7 May 1996 and sold by the Union Pacific to Metro East Industries at East St. Louis, Illinois, in 1997. From there, it moved on to Larry's Truck Electric Service in Ohio before February 1998 and then to the Acadiana Railway in December 1998. The Acadiana had LTE repaint it into this green and yellow paint scheme, which was inspired by a former Chicago & North Western GP7 which the railroad had previously purchased from LTE. This was the Acadiana's second GP30; their first one was former Union Pacific 701 which they acquired in 1993.
