BM #916 - Boston & Maine |
Description: |
Here is a very early locomotive built by the Manchester Locomotive Works in 1893. It was a B&M class A-38a with 64" drivers. It generated a modest boiler pressure of 150 psi for its 18"x24" cylinders. The engine weight was a petite 100,800 lb and it produced a tractive effot a mere 15,491 lb but worked well with the early passenger and freight car weights of its time. A note on back of the photo states that this locomotive was "scrapped 1937" but Steamlocomotive.com website has it scrapped much earlier, in 1923. No photographer identified. |
