Wrong end east |
Description: |
Typically, the push pull sets on Long Island ran with the power pack on the west end. This one seems to have gotten turned around, as the MP 15 providing train power is facing east, with GP 38-2 272 on the west end. The Stony Brook station is one of the more attractive stations on the island, surprisingly small considering it's adjacent to the SUNY Stony Brook campus, out of the photo to the left. |

GP 38 pushing |
Description: |
GP 38s pushing on Long Island was not unusual. Pushing east, however, was. The power pack is on the east end of the train here, MP 15 161 doing the honors leading eastbound. |

FA rolls west |
Description: |
An FA leads this inbound Ronkonkoma train. The unit number is stenciled on the nose, another of the many variations of the LIRR paint scheme. The station at Farmingdale, seen at right in the background, was an attractive brick structure that seemed too big for the ridership the station handled. The electrification project is well along here, with a new high level platform and third rail installed, and a new signal bridge for a yet to be installed interlocking. |

Scoot ready |
Description: |
The diesel connection to Speonk sits at the station waiting for time to head west to a connection with MUs at Babylon. Power today is an MP 15 power pack leading, with the typical GP 38 pushing on the east end. |

E Williston |
Description: |
One of the more pictuesque stations on the Long Island is at East Williston. It has the distinction of being the only station on the Oyster Bay branch with electric MU service even if only one train per day, a westbound in the morning. |

Big station |
Description: |
One town that had a much bigger station than seemed necessary for the traffic was Farmingdale, with its three stories and brick construction. By the 1980s, there was an agent for the morning rush, and mostly an empty building. |
