Built in 1929 by P-S in Lot #6792 to Plan #4134 as PRR Class POS211 2DR-1C-1DB sleeper-25 seat buffet lounge blunt end observation #8427 WILLIAM WALLACE ATTERBURY, 1 of 7 such cars (#8421-#8427) built in that Lot; these cars were ordered in January 1946 and delivered between March and April 1949. In 1957, 5 of these cars were renumbered to #7154-#7158 for parlor service, the WILLIAM WALLDCE ATTERBURY as #7155; these 5 cars were returned to the original numbers in 1958. The WILLIAM WALLACE ATTERBURY was retired in 1964 and sold to James E. Strates Shows. The ATTERBURY is 1 of 4 extant cars from Class POS211. The other 3 are: #8422/#7158 GEORGE BROOKE ROBERTS, which is now privately ownef as the #800027 JOHN T. BRIGHAM; the #8423/#7156 FRANK THOMSON, whic is now the #800110 LOUIS SOCKALEXIS; and the #8426 SAMUEL REA, which was formerly owned by the Indiana Pailway Museum in French Lick, and is now owned by the Great Lakes Central. 3317 was built by Pullman-Standard in 1949 as Pennsylvania 8427 "William Wallace Atterbury". It was retired in 1967 and sold to J. E. Strates Shows, becoming JESX 7. The car was sold to Iowa Pacific circa 2012. In 2022, the car was sold to a Dark Sky Station. |
