I've never understood why NS would go out of its way to remove the red class lights from these locomotives. Even if they're not being used is it really necessary to take them and the wiring out and plate the holes over? Could just not turn them on.

I don't believe they ripped out the wiring or the lights, I believe they just platted over them.

The spots where the class lights were plated over look like the torpedo tubes on a submarine.
