WB. Here is an image of a photo by J.M. Johnson that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1967. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6859, an AS-18AM road switcher built by the American Locomotive Company as number "8659" in January of 1958, rated at 1,800 horsepower, and renumbered "6859" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. In this context, its crew is tending to a mixed-cargo freight train that's just entered the Eastbound Receiving Yard. Photo taken from the 4th Street Footbridge. William E. Burket Collection. |
