Union Pacific 14 and 16 were built in March and June 1960 as a part of an order for thirty 8500-horsepower 2-unit gas turbine electric locomotives (GTEL's). They were retired in February 1970 and sold in August 1971; but the A-units remained on the UP at Salt Lake City until March 1979, when they were moved to Kansas City. Both were subsequently acquired by the Illinois Railway Museum. (date approximate) |
