USAX 4601  Contributor's Pick!
After spending some time on the Seaview Railroad (Quonset Point) in Davisville, Rhode Island, these 2 locos were at the old New Haven Auburn Street Yard in Cranston, Rhode Island. They made it on a Providence and Worcester freight to Worcester, Massachusetts and eventually to Middletown, Connecticut to the Connecticut Central Railroad, where an Army Detachment used them. These locomotives were rebuilt IC GPs, rebuilt at the Paducah Shops in Kentucky to GP10 specs. The 4601 had been a GP9, and the 4602 was a GP18 and had a factory low nose as opposed to the Paducah chop. The last I know, these 2 locos were stored at the Pioneer Valley Railroad in Westfield, Massachusetts as part of the 226th Detachment based at the Westover Air Base.
