PRR "Altoona Interlude," Page 64, 1949
Here is page eight of a 14-page camera study by W.A. Feibelman entitled "Altoona Interlude." It was published originally in his (1979) monograph entitled "Rails To Pittsburgh: 1945-1970," page 64. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "Smoke and steam as far as the eye can see! Two J1's and two I1's are seen at the extensive yards of Altoona." Shown here are the westbound freight advance tracks. Each of these trains awaits new crews and permission to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and Pitcairn Yard; some have tail-end pushers as far as Gallitzin. Both photos taken from the 4th Street Footbridge.
