LERR 4-4-0 98
Louisiana Eastern 4-4-0 number 98 was parked under the shed in the gravel pit at Shiloh, Louisiana. This structure was the closest thing the railroad had to an engine house! The locomotive had been built by Alco’s Schenectady Works (45921) in January 1909 as Mississippi Central 98 and was acquired by the LE in 1946. About five months after this photo was taken, the 98 was sold to Tom Marshall and shipped to the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania, then It moved to the Wilmington & Western in Delaware.
