KCS SD50 712 and SD40-2 656
On Thursday morning 28 March 2002 Kansas City Southern northbound intermodal train No. 10 struck an 18-wheeler loaded with concrete piles at the Louisiana Concrete Products grade crossing in Baton Rouge. This photo was taken three days later, and shows the train’s first two engines parked on the BATON ROUGE MORNING ADVOCATE newspaper plant siding. The damage to the train’s lead unit, SD50 712, is obvious; while the second unit, SD40-2 656, had a gash on the engineer’s side of its fuel tank. The train’s third unit, SD40M-2 626, was unharmed, as was the crew.
