Electrics. Here is a photo of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4859, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata during December of 1937 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. In this context, it's just departed Washington's Union Station with "The Keystone," and is passing Ivy City Yard on its way to Baltimore and points North. Note that it's running with its lead pantograph in the "up" position. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. (Gift from Brad Mann.) |
