Here are pages five and six of a seven-page cover article by David P. Morgan entitled "Straight Talk From The Pennsy." They were published originally in the July 1955 issue of "Trains" magazine, pages 18-19. Shown here are two Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives pushing a mixed-cargo freight train around the Horseshoe Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The leading engine is #4543, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1923 and retired in August of 1959 after 36 years of service. Also visible is PRR N-5 cabin car #477747. Photo taken by Fred McLeod on 24 October 1949. |
