Working the freight yard In Calmar, Iowa, is MILW 4-6-0 #1073 but within a month it will b˜ retired and scrapped. This may be the last working photo of it ever taken before it disappeared into a pile of iron. Originally by as CM&StP Vauclain compound 4-6-0 #432 by Baldwin in Spetember of 1903, it had many road numbers during its nearly 51 years of service - renumbered in 5/1907 to #1782, renumbered in 9/1912 to #4382, renumbered and simplified in 12/1919 to #2932, renumbered in 11/1920 to #2890, renumbered in 6/1938 to #1073. The loco was scrapped in July of 1954. |
