Coal Above  Contributor's Pick!
I came across the Amblersburg Viaduct while following the rails from Terra Alta to Rowlesburg, West Virginia back in early April 2023. This historic stone arch bridge was built over Salt Lick Creek in western Preston County circa 1865. It lies on the CSX Mountain Subdivision (former B&O West End Subdivision). I made a return trip recently, hoping to catch a train this time. I had just stepped out of the vehicle when I heard a rumbling. A loaded West Virginia coal train has a different sound when you are in a low spot beneath the rails. I am very glad I made the return trip!
