This lucky 2-8-0 Consolidation was fortunate to lead several lives furing its lifetime. Originally built by Baldwind in November of 1907 as Southern 2-8-0 Consolidation #385, it worked until being retired and sold to the Virginia Blue Ridge RR (VBR) in March of 1947. It was renumbered VBR #6. Earle Gil saw the loco sitting almost abandoned and purchased it around 1963 to start his own tourist train. He had it rebuilt at the Morristown & Erie shops. He rand a very successful exursion train there from May 9, 1965 until 1975. He moved the entire train to former Susquehanna & Western trackage in Newfoundland, NJ. The new train lasted until soaring costs caused the closure on December 14, 1980 after 15 year run. J. Warrick was there in 1976 to photograph the train before an excursion. |
