PRR FURNACE Tower, c. 1921
Riley. Here is a reproduction B&W postal card of a photo that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1921. The photographer is not identified. Prominent here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's FURNACE Tower, located in the midst of the Altoona Yards. Also note the Laborers at work maintaining one of the many switches. Partially visible at the far right is a gasoline-powered yard scooter used to retrieve Yard Brakemen and return them to the top of the Hump.
