Crew change  Contributor's Pick!
Like most of these events, it started with a horn I heard from the house. I cant beat a train here by going through town, so the process is to take Ark 59 south, then cut over to Westville OK on US 62, and start north, looking for the train. I can usually catch it a couple miles north of Westville. Today, no train. Heres why: they canned it at Watts. The train was 119 cars, long enough that it would block the crossing at the north end of the yard, so they cut the train to accommodate. The train waited only maybe 30 minutes, but too long to leave the crossing blocked. After this crew got on, they had to put the train back together-maybe a half dozen cars and a two unit DPU. It took time. Meanwhile, the 261 was working at the north end.
