Lehigh & New England USRA(?) hopper car that was used as an ash car at the University of Illinois' Abbot Power Station and subsequently donated to the Museum. The original trucks (marked "L&NE") with 5.5"x11" journals were put under Southern #401's tender and these trucks (marked "SOU Ry") were under the 401's tender as delivered. Unfortunately, this hopper car was in terrible condition, having been "eaten up" by years of coal-hauling and, later, coal ash storage (sulfuric acids). It was scrapped by the Museum. The original L&NE trucks are still under the 401's tender and the "SOU Ry" trucks shown here are in storage.
