C&IW SW9 104, Hawthorne Yard, Cicero, Illinois, March 26, 1966, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The Chicago & Illinois Western was a switching subsidiary of the Illinois Central, having about 12 miles of main track and a couple more miles of trackage rights, running roughly along the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal from Willlow Springs on the west to about Western Avenue in Chicago on the east end. The June 1965 issue of the Official Guide list 32 freight connections and junction points on the C&IW. |
