Title:
C&O 4-6-2 #471 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Description:
Built by Alco in 1914 as an F-17 class "Pacific", this locomotive had the distinction of carrying the name "George Washington" while heading up passenger service on the C&O. It originally had 69" drivers and developed 185 psi boiler pressure but after a rebuild in 1934, it was given 74" drivers and could develop a 200 psi boiler pressure. As the way with the rest of steam, it was scrapped by 1952. A Forrest Trittenbach photo. With the help of Mike Woodruff (see comment below), the location is the Icy City engine terminal. Date is approximate.
