PRR 2249, EF-22, 1964 |
Description: |
24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 29 November 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2249, #2290, and #2224. All were built by EMD. #2249 and #2224 are EF-22's built in 1963 and are rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #2290 is an EF-25 built in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with a 73-car TrucTrain and will not stop in Altoona on their way to the Enola Yards and points East. |

PRR 2290, EF-25, 1965 |
Description: |
Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2290, #2264, and two others whose numbers are not visible. All were built by EMD. #2290 and #2264 are EF-25's built in 1964 and rated at 2,500 HP each. They are pulling a westbound merchandise train past WORKS Tower. What is notable, here, is that this train is on one of the "passenger" tracks and will not stop in Altoona to change crews. In 1965, this was the exception; nowadays, it is the norm. |
