Here is an original photo by John S. Fisher that was taken in Columbus, Ohio, on 26 December 1954. Caption On Reverse: "Pennsy 'J' and helper at W. 54th Ave. Columbus." Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9804, another "EF" Class diesel-electric A-unit, and an unidentified "J" Class (2-10-4) "Texas" steam locomotive. #9804 is an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in March of 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. Not long after this, the roles would largely be reversed. |

Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here (L to R) is PRR engine #9804 and two other units whose numbers are not visible. All were built by EMD. #9804 is an EF-15A built in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. They are pulling a westbound mixed-cargo freight train past SLOPE Tower and are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge. |
