Description: |
In 2011 the first ten of one hundred and forty-three Class 43-000 type GE C30ACi diesel-electric locomotives for Transnet Freight Rail were imported from the United States of America, built by GE Transportation Systems and numbered in the range from 43-001 to 43-010. The rest of the locomotives, numbered in the range from 43-011 to 43-143, were built at the Koedoespoort shops of Transnet Rail Engineering between 2011 and 2013. The C30ACi was the first AC diesel electric locomotive to be introduced in sub-Saharan Africa. See also the Wikipedia article on the South African Class 43-000. |
