Under a magnificent plume of coal smoke, Louisville & Nashville K-5 class Pacific 282 was powering southbound train Number 7 - the local from Mobile - across the New Orleans Terminal Co. crossings at N.O.T. Tower (hidden by the smoke) and over the Marigny Canal. No. 7 was about 2½ miles away from the end of its run at the railroad's Canal Street Station. The 282 had been built by Alco-Brooks in 1924 and was retired on 8 January 1953. (approximate date of photo) |
