KCS No. 53
Kansas City Southern train No. 53 originated in Dallas and terminated at the CSX on the east side of New Orleans. The train got from the KCS to the CSX by operating over the Norfolk Southern for about six miles. In this shot, an NS yard crew was relieving the KCS road crew at the Labarre Road grade crossing in the suburb of Metairie for the trip to Louisa Street, where a CSX crew would bring the train into their yard. At this time No. 53 frequently ran with two geeps and a road slug, but this train had GP40’s 751, 784 and 755.
