Southbound Kansas City Southern train No. 53 was on the Norfolk Southern (New Orleans Terminal Co.) at Stroelitz Street in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans. The 99-car train had an NS crew, and was on its way from the KCS to the CSX GENTILLY YARD with GP40 768, F7A slug 4060 and GP40-2-796.
