| Elgin Joliet & Eastern coil car (GBS) 4701 was on Canadian National train M-302 at Hammond, Louisiana, on its way to the Stupp Corporation pipe manufacturing plant at Baton Rouge. Although the EQUIPMENT REGISTER listed this car with a gross rail load (GRL) of 286,000 pounds (i.e. 100-ton trucks), the data on this car showed that it had a LD LMT of 242,600 pounds and f LT WT of 72,400 pounds for a GRL of 315,000 pounds, indicating that it was riding on 125-ton trucks. The car wore a bright yellow HOME ROAD FOR REPAIR-DO NOT LOAD sticker, but that didn’t bother the CN. After all, it was their car! |
